The technology

The oil is produced by fermentation of microalgae in a controlled, land-based environment. It delivers EPA and DHA from one algal source in triglyceride form, without fish oil.

Published research

The publications below examine dsm-firmenich Schizochytrium oil and algal DHA. A separate bioavailability trial for life’sOMEGA® is registered as ClinicalTrials.gov NCT06629103; it has no posted results.

  • Bailey et al. (2025)

    Randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled parallel trial; 93 adults enrolled and 74 were included in the plasma-phospholipid analysis comparing dsm-firmenich Schizochytrium microalgal oil with fish oil. The authors were affiliated with dsm-firmenich, the manufacturer of life’sOMEGA®.
